The introduction of online trading has made the process of trading in the stock market extremely hassle-free.

Not only can you access your trading account and demat account at any time through your depository participant’s official platforms, but you can also monitor your portfolio and assess market information at your convenience. Furthermore, you can easily download your demat account holding statement.

In this article, we shall discuss what is a demat account holding statement, what it contains, and how you can safely access and download it.

What is a demat account holding statement?

A demat account holding statement is a document comprising the summary of your demat holdings at a particular point of time. Let us understand the primary contents of a demat account holding statement through an example.

If you have, say, 100 shares of company A and 50 shares of company B in your demat account on April 1, 2024, then the demat account holding statement as on that date shall show your demat holdings with their current market price, the price at which you purchased those securities, and the quantity you hold of each security.

Your demat account holding statement also contains important information such as the current balance of securities, free balance, pledged balance, and locked in balance.

In addition to a demat trading account holding statement, there is another document pertaining to your demat account which is termed as a demat account statement. All the transactions pertaining to your demat account (debits and credits of holdings) are recorded in this statement.

How to download your demat account holding statement online

You can easily download your demat account statement. There are two ways to access the aforementioned statement, namely, the official website or mobile application of your depository participant, and the website of the depository where your demat account is, that is, either the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) or the Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL).
